Five Hurricane Categories
With hurricanes, heavy winds and rains that move through communities and tear them apart without any discrimination. Hurricanes can tear out streets, roofs of houses, they can down power lines and uproot trees as well as completely destroy traffic lights.
The amount of damage that we see in a hurricane depends upon what the category of the hurricane is. Here is an outline of each of the five categories of hurricanes and what they typically entail:
Category 1 Hurricanes: These hurricanes will bring heavy damage to roofs and siding can tear shingles and gutters off of buildings and houses. The gusts of wind often are above 74 mph. Trees can snap, and routes can be blown over. Powerlines and potholes can also be damaged resulting in power outages.
Category 2 Hurricanes: These storms have wind gusts that are above 96 miles an hour and can cause major damage to properties. There will be severe damage to trees and power lines causing outages.
Category 3 Hurricanes: The storms have wind gusts that are above 111 mph and these storms will cause severe damage to trees that are deeply rooted and almost always cause issues with electricity and water supply.
Category 4 Hurricanes: The storms will have wind gusts of over 131 mph. They almost always cause severe damages to homes and buildings. Trees almost always are snapped and uprooted, and powerline poles can come down completely. Because of the nature of these storms rescue workers can have a hard time reaching residential places.
Category 5 Hurricanes: These hurricanes have wind gusts that go above 155 mph and they are considered to be the most dangerous hurricanes. There have only been three category five hurricanes To make landfall in the United States in recorded history. These hurricanes can destroy even the best built homes. Structures can completely collapse, and roofs can come completely off. This is more than shingles or siding pulling off of the house. It is deep property damage. Even the most deeply rooted of trees can be ripped from the earth and turned into projectiles.

Do This After a Hurricane
Sadly, even if you do all of the right things to protect your property before a hurricane or tropical storm comes through you were going to end up with some type of damage. If you suffer damage to your house or your business after a storm you need to make sure that you do certain things to handle your insurance claim properly:
I need to make sure that you properly cover all of your property damage to prevent water from getting in and causing even more damage. You can use a tarp to accomplish this. We strongly advise this action being taken because the insurance company Will use any reasoning to avoid following through on paying you for your damages. If they say that the damage to your property worsened after the storm happened, then they could say that you were to blame, and they will deny you from your claim.
Make sure you document everything possible. You want to make sure you take photos and videos. Do it from all four sides of your house inside and out get as much of the roof as you can. Your yard is also going to be important to take photos of. You can’t take too many. you want every single room photographed from various angles. You can also photograph individual items in the house. When you have all of this evidence, we can use that to prove the losses that you’ve suffered and why you are filing your claim to begin with. You can also keep a log of written inventory of property that was damaged while you were taking photos. This is all going to make your case stronger.
