        “Excellent experience!”

Excellent experience with very good results, I am very happy and satisfied with the Goldstein, Buckley, Cechman, Rice & Purtz law firm I, especially Mr. Christopher Smith who at all times during the process of my case was very honest, correct and efficient. I highly recommend this firm and this attorney because they really made a big difference to the results in my case.

        Sergio-Leydi C.

Attorney Purtz and the entire staff have been wonderful. They went above and beyond. Highly recommended!

        Burton P.

        “This law firm is awesome!”

This law firm is awesome. They were very thorough and attention to detail. If you have any issues that need quick results this is the one. Please always think of them for all your lawyer needs.

        John W.

        “Accident Case”

Goldstein, Buckley, Cechman, Rice and Purtz, PA was the only law firm who would take our car accident case. Andrea Pleimling Smith was very thorough, explained everything in a very detailed fashion, and was easy to reach when questions arose. She kept us informed every step of the way. Without her, we would have suffered a severe financial loss due to an accident which was not our fault. Florida’s No Fault law is terrible and very unfair. Andrea and her team were very helpful in recouping all of the money we were required to spend!

        Karen and David B.

        “Thank you again for everything”

Thank you again for everything you did for me. Your compassion and concern was greatly appreciated. I have all the faith in the world with you by my side. If ever I know someone who needs an attorney, I will recommend your office. Everyone I had dealings with was very professional. Good job.

        Terri D.

        “Great Service”

We have used Goldstein, Buckley, Cechman, Rice & Purtz in the past and presently and they always provide great customer service. They are very knowledgeable and thorough in their representation and always go the extra mile to make sure we’re represented fairly. Highly recommend!

On this page you will also learn how these types of cases work through a story about one of our past clients. Be sure to read until the end to learn more.

Negligent Security Claim Mistakes to Avoid

When you are getting started in a case, after you suffer your damages, it is important that you know what not to do. You can spare yourself an uphill battle later on when you listen to these common mistakes people make after being involved in a negligent security claim.

        Avoiding Going to the Doctor

Whether you are not sure you need medical attention or have other things in your life to prioritize, you need you to go to the doctor right anyway.

Far too many people avoid seeing a doctor right away. Sometimes it’s because they have adrenaline right after the accident that masks their pain. They may be convinced that don’t need immediate medical care. Other times they are worried about missing other things in their life that they don’t want to prioritize themselves. Or they are worried about the cost of seeking medical attention.

Regardless, you should absolutely go to the doctor as soon as you can.

Without the immediate help from a doctor, your injuries can worsen.

You could also be facing consequences from the insurance company if they find out you waited to see a doctor. They will try to say you aren’t as hurt as you claim to be. That means they can reduce your compensation. We do not want that.

        Ignoring Advice from Your Doctor

When doctor’s give you instructions, it is for your own good. They are trying to get you back to full health. Any advice they give should be followed closely.

If your doctor tells you not to lift heavy objects, you should not be helping your buddy move a couch into his new apartment.

The insurance company is known to send private investigators after people who file injury claims.

If they catch you on camera doing something you were specifically told not to do, this could mean that your case is in jeopardy.

You do not want to give the insurance company any more reason to lower your compensation award.

Make sure you follow  your doctor’s orders. Not only because it will help you get better sooner, but because it will aide in you receiving justice.

Giving the Insurance Company a Recorded Statement

Not too long after you are involved in the incident on someone else’s property, you can expect that the insurance company will soon be reaching out to you.

They are going to be calling you in hopes that you will provide them with a recorded statement.

What we would like you to do in this moment, when they call you, is say no and hang up the phone.

You have no legal obligation to speak with them. If they want to talk about your case, they can get in touch with your lawyer.

If they were to get a recorded statement from you, it would give them leverage in the case. They are trained to get you to say things that could hurt your case while benefiting theirs.

We caution you against trusting them. They are not out for your best interests. They want to save money on your case. Don’t give them anything that will help this mission of theirs. Let your lawyers handle communication with them.

        Delaying Hiring a Lawyer

It should be noted that you do not have an unlimited amount of time to file a claim for negligent security. You are given only a four year timeline to bring your claim against the liable property owner.

From the date of your incident on their property, you will be allowed those four years to file the claim.

If you attempted to call a lawyer to have them represent you and it has been even a week past this deadline, you will not be allowed to receive compensation. It is a time limit that has little to no exceptions.

We urge you to prioritize reaching out to our Southwest Florida negligent security lawyers.

When you do not make calling a lawyer a priority, it is easy to let this slide from your list of things to do. Before long, it’s a few years after the incident. Even waiting short period of time could mean that crucial evidence is lost and any witnesses to the incident could disappear.

The sooner you hire a lawyer, the better.

Hiring the Wrong Lawyer for Your Case

Even if you do hire a lawyer right away, don’t rush into hiring the wrong lawyer. You don’t have forever, but you do have enough time to make sure the person who is representing your case is going to do a good job.

You would not hire someone who doesn’t work in remodeling to remodel your kitchen if you wanted to have them do the best possible job. You would not want a dentist to perform heart surgery.

With lawyers, it is the same way. Just because they work at a law firm, does not mean they know how to handle your negligent security claim.

It would be unwise to hire a lawyer who only takes on personal injury cases once in a while. They might be a great real estate lawyer, but that doesn’t mean they will be a great negligent security lawyer.

If you want the best possible results, it is important that you hire someone who will give you the best possible results. That person should have a list of cases that they have handled successfully before. Negligent security cases should be something they are experienced in.

Choose wisely. You only get one chance for your compensation.

You do not want to end up one day wondering what would have happened if you had hired a lawyer better suited for your case.

        Florida Negligent Security Client Story

Names and circumstances have been changed to protect our client’s identity.

When you hear Sarah’s story, we hope that you learn about how negligent security claims work. Of course, everyone’s case will look a little different depending on circumstances, but this story will give you a broad understanding. You would receive a personalized plan from our Florida negligent security lawyers.

Here is how we met Sarah and helped her get justice for her negligent security claim.

Sarah was 32 years old when she was brutally attacked in a parking garage at her local mall.

She was going shopping with her friends after work one weeknight. She was having a great night. They were getting outfits for their upcoming vacation. She and her closest friends were heading to Aruba in two weeks.

They dined at a local restaurant after they finished shopping. Over a glass of wine and dinner, they planned out their vacation. They were going to scuba dive, hike, and zip line. Everyone was so excited to be going. Sarah in particular was thrilled to be going on vacation for the first time in almost ten years.

She had been saving up for this trip for years. This was going to be the biggest trip she could afford for a long time so it was important that she enjoy every second of it.

As dinner was winding down, Sarah said good night to everyone and headed to her car.

She was the only one who did not park at the restaurant before they went shopping. Her car was at the parking ramp closer to the mall.

As she walked into the ramp she noticed that the lights were out in the stairwell. It gave her chills looking at the dark unlit stairwell.

The sun went down already so she had to choose between the dark stairwell and the elevator. She opted for the elevator. Not only was she afraid of being a woman alone in a dark stairwell, but she didn’t have the best shoes on for walking up stairs in the dark.

As she stepped off the elevator, she heard shuffling coming from the landing. She immediately sped off towards her car but it was too late.

There was a man waiting for someone just like Sarah to come into his reach. He threw her to the ground and assaulted her, stealing her bags, phone, and purse.

He left her bleeding and hurt on the ground as he made off with her things.

She laid there pretending to be unconscious until she was sure he was gone. Then she stumbled out into the street by the mall. Fortunately, her friends were still at the parking lot of the restaurant.

They were horrified to see Sarah come to them bloodied and clearly very beat up.

They rushed her to the emergency room where she was treated for her injuries.

The police were called onto the scene but they could not find the assailant.

A week later, as Sarah dealt with the trauma of the event and the realization she was not going to be able to go on this trip with her friends, she searched for a lawyer. Google led her to us.

During Sarah’s first free consultation with us, she had three main questions.

        1. Who am I suing?
        2. How much is my case worth?
        3. When will I get my compensation award?

If you have the same questions Sarah had for us, read until the end to get the answers.

        Who am I suing?

Sarah was in rough shape when we met her. She still had bruising all over her face. She looked completely devastated. It is always hard to see someone struggling after they go through something like this.

When she asked us who she was going to be bringing the case against, she said to us, “They couldn’t find the guy who did this to me, so who am I suing?” we explained to her that these cases are distinctly different from criminal cases.

What she experienced was a crime. The man who mugged her was a criminal. If they ever did catch him, he would face charges.

We told her, “What we do is personal injury law. We get you compensation for your damages.”

We made it clear that she was entitled to justice because this accident was avoidable.

If the property owner had put in security cameras, not only would we be able to better identify her assailant, but he may have been deterred from committing this crime in the first place.

If the property owner had made sure that the stairwell was well lit, there is reason to believe that a criminal would not have been lurking in the shadows waiting for Sarah to come along.

We made sure she knew that this was not her fault. It was the property owner’s legal responsibility to notice a lack of security measures, and then adjust to make visitors safer.

How much is my case worth?

Sarah lost so much money in a short period of time. The man took her new clothes, purse, phone, and wallet. She had to pay for the emergency room visit. She was going to need physical therapy. She was also going to lose money from the trip she was no longer able to go on. This was a financially, mentally, and emotionally draining time in her life.

She wanted to know what kind of money she could expect from her case.

This is normally one of everyone’s first questions. It is only natural to wonder what you are going to get out of this.

You’ve likely heard of the kinds of compensation awards people have won from injury cases.

All of it is based on circumstance.

For Sarah, we would soon launch an investigation into her case.

We wanted to know every dollar she spent because of this incident. We also needed to find out how much more money she was expected to spend.

Furthermore, we wanted to know how much life she was giving up because of this. Was she ever going to feel comfortable alone at night again? We already knew she gave up her planned vacation because of this incident.

Every bit of loss in life enjoyment matters for a compensation award.

We aim to receive a compensation award that reflects all heartache and financial loss.

When will I get my compensation award?

We explained to Sarah that she needed to be patient. We needed her to get to maximum medical improvement before we could think about settling her case.

There is no set timeline for these cases. It is all based on how someone recovers.

With tears in her eyes, she asked, “What if I’m never better?”

        We knew she meant mentally.

This is a traumatic thing to live through.

We reassured her that she had our support through this. We had seen others like her go through similar situations pull through and go on to be happy again.

Once we received word from her doctor that Sarah had fully recovered physically from this incident,  , we could fight for the damages she suffered to her mental health in her compensation award.

She left our meeting feeling more confident about the road ahead of her.
