Attorney and Partner Andrea Pleimling-SmithKnow Your Insurance Coverage

Unfortunately, most people do not review their insurance coverage until something unfortunate happens. Whether it is motor vehicle insurance, or homeowners insurance, be sure to periodically review your policies to ensure you have adequate coverage in the event of a loss. If you have questions about your coverage, the attorneys at Goldstein, Buckley, Cechman, Rice & Purtz, P.A., are happy to offer a complimentary review of your policy(ies).

It’s important to know that the disclosures you make at the time you apply for the policy can also impact your coverage in the event of a loss. You must pay close attention to the questions that are asked on all insurance applications. Be sure to read each part of the application and answer the questions accurately. For example, it is particularly important on motor vehicle insurance applications to disclose all the people that reside in your household, whether they drive or not. With regard to homeowners insurance, if you are a pet owner, be sure to pay attention to any pet exclusions or breed restrictions.

Motor Vehicle Insurance

Motor vehicle insurance is required in Florida. The minimum coverage requirements are $10,000.00 in personal injury protection (PIP) and $10,000.00 in property damage. The minimum requirements do not provide coverage for bodily injury liability, which means that you should consider obtaining uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage, if you are able.   Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage will compensate you for your damages in the event an at-fault driver does not have insurance, or does not have enough insurance, to cover the extent of your damages.
